Lonnie’s Legacy of Leadership | Welcome to Excel

In the heart of Mangochi District in Malawi, a beacon of hope shines bright, changing the lives of young minds and promising a future filled with possibilities. Excel Primary School, established by the late Mrs. Lonnie Manduwi, Malawi’s first Ship Captain and Lecturer at the Malawi Marine College, stands as a testament to the transformative power of education and one woman’s commitment to uplifting her community.

Mrs. Lonnie Manduwi, a trailblazer in every way, envisioned a brighter future for the children of Mangochi. Recognizing the transformative impact of education, she founded Excel Primary School with the mission to empower the youth, providing them with a solid foundation to navigate life’s challenges and contribute meaningfully to society.

A Legacy of Leadership

As the first female Ship Captain in Malawi and an estemeed lecturer at the Malawi Marine College, Mrs. Manduwi was a pioneer breaking gender barriers in the maritime industry. Her passion for education and community development led her to establish Excel Primary School, extending her legacy beyond the maritime sector to the heart of Mangochi.

Bridging Educational Gaps

Mangochi District, like many rural areas, faced challenges in access to quality education. Excel Primary School emerged as a beacon of hope, bridging the educational gap for children who might have otherwise been deprived of learning opportunities. The school is committed to providing not only academic education but also fostering holistic development, nurturing each child’s unique talents and capabilities.

Empowering Through Knowledge

At Excel Primary School, education goes beyond textbooks. Students are encouraged to explore their creativity, critical thinking, and problem-solving skills. The school’s curriculum emphasizes a well-rounded education, ensuring that children are equipped with the skills needed for the ever-evolving global landscape.

Community Engagement and Development

Mrs. Manduwi’s vision extended beyond the school’s walls. Excel Primary School actively engages with the local community, involving parents, guardians, and community leaders in the educational journey of the students. This collaborative approach fosters a sense of ownership and pride in the community’s educational initiatives.

Sustainable Impact

The impact of Excel Primary School is evident in the success stories emerging from its classrooms. Former students have gone on to pursue higher education, breaking generational cycles of poverty and opening doors to brighter futures. The school’s emphasis on empowerment through education has created a ripple effect, inspiring the next generation to dream big and reach for the stars.

Challenges and Resilience

While Excel Primary School has made significant strides, challenges persist. Adequate infrastructure, learning resources, and teacher training are ongoing needs. However, the school community, inspired by Mrs. Manduwi’s legacy, remains resilient. Efforts to secure support from local and international stakeholders continue, ensuring that the school’s impact grows even stronger.
